You are Not A Rock Star!

In light of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last week I have been really pensive and thinking a lot about what a long and amazing life she had, and how a lot of people today do not really give her the proper credit and respect that she deserves for all that she gave up during her lifetime. While I am sure it had it’s perks along the way, it clearly had so many hardships as well; and how she had to keep all of her opinions to herself is something that today’s “TikTok, Instagram and Twitter megalomaniac generation clearly has no idea about, since they seem to air everything out on social media at the drop of a hat, much to their own demise.

This is why I am musing today on the mere fact of “YOU ARE NOT A ROCK STAR”. Honestly none of us are, even the actual rock stars. We are all humans, even the queen, one of Gods most humble servants knew this undeniable truth, which is what made her so great. Some of the best stories I have heard online told about the queen was about her being humble, how she took a picture of a couple trespassers on her Balmoral property that she ran across while on a walk with her bodyguard. When asked if she knew the queen she pointed to her guard and said that he did, the couple quickly asked her to take their picture with him since he was nearly famous and so she did! What a sly old fox she was, never letting on that she herself was in fact the queen as she took the photo. I wish I had that much grace, couth and wherewith all in myself at all times.

I must say that I do find the amount of self absorption in the world these days to be a bit tiresome at best. It seems like with the invention of social media to bring people closer, we created little monsters that think we actually want to see every little thing they are doing, every second of the day. Which sadly, in a way has desensitized the world to anything that is actually worth viewing or seeing. We aimlessly scroll looking at friends and families photos, not bothering to even hit the like button, because that would mean we actually care and had looked. However, secretly we are always looking so we keep up with the Jones’ and then one up them, all the while not liking a single photo, but the social algorithm tells another story on that. Why do you think all those people keep showing up in your profile all the time? Well because they are looking at you and the computers know it, so they show you more and more of what they are doing, since they figure it must be mutual right?

How did we end up here? How did social media, that is suppose to bring us close actually drive us further apart? Is it because of the fake profile fronts people project or the over sharing? Maybe it is the fact you see the inconsistencies of them, saying one thing and doing another? I think it is all of the above, and then there is the whole mind set that “if you did not post it, it did not it even happen?” Maybe you might just not be an over sharing type of individual, which had become my new ideology.

I know we have recently become very reclusive, and are now making a very conscious decision not to share everything, as we once did before, for that very reason. It seems like the more we shared, the more “frienemies” we developed, you know people that you thought were your friends then quickly proved otherwise behind your back.

We decided that sharing all of our good fortunes, which we thought people “our friends and family” would share in the happiness with us. However we found that it actually caused them to hate us, or become jealous of us. The green eyed monsters took hold and we found a lot of problems being made for us on purpose. Which is sad, when you even have to watch out for your own flesh and blood, but I guess even the queen would have known a bit about that as well, which is where this musing comes full circle in a way.

I do worry about where the future is going, and how society as a whole will survive if so many people feel as if they are their own rock stars. Not everyone needs a YouTube channel, or Podcast as a platform to spread their opinions and knowledge to the world, because let’s face it not all of it is good. Heck, I probably should not even be writing this very blog since it falls into the same self absorbed category of why would anyone want to read this crap? Well I am hoping that it does not fall on deaf ears and we course correct our ways to fix some of our out of control self absorption.

Now more than ever we should really learn to be more humble, and realize we are all just a piece of this big old planet and no one person will make or break it. Even with the passing of a major monarch, that we all loved, the world keeps spinning, wars keep raging, and time does not stop.

Live your lives, but realize it is only for you, not for an online audience or what others think, none of that even matters. Stop posting it all on social media it is simply a way for online criminals and hackers to learn more about your life and steal it away from you; because they want what you have; but they are not posting about, it they hide in the shadows. Evil is currently over running the planet and slowing taking over all that is good, or all that tries to be good. If you search your soul, you know that what I say is true, you can feel it, see it and subconsciously know it.

Rock On Friends,
