Go Fund Yourself

One of the trends I have started to loath lately is the Go Fund Me pages. I feel as if it has been over used, misused and completely bastardized from something that may have started with good intentions. Now it seems like everything needs our help; like my grasshopper lost a leg please help or the dryer keeps eating my socks, go fund me! Well go fund yourself.

Maybe I am just getting cynical as I get older, but I feel like we are all going through something. However, social media has made it easier to hop online and become today’s latest victim, and I think people really get off on being victims these days. My God you would think everyone is the next Jesus on a cross walking around right now to hear them tell it. Persecuted from birth with no fair shake, no one on their side, they are disease ridden and even their dog hates them. I mean no Country song could even do these ridiculous narcissists justice.

I have even grown to hate things like meal trains as well. A true southern based neighborly giving tradition, which was designed to help families during tough times like deaths or illnesses have now become donate gift cards or make a payment to my Venmo and donate money to a family fund for them to use on their own schedule. Ummm well okay, but that is not a meal train, that is actually a fundraiser, correct? Again just raising funds or money which seems less about community and more about the commerce. Some go fund me projects that I have seen going around are not even the accounts for the actual recipients and I wonder if the families even see the funds or if these unscrupulous people just keep the gift cards and donations for their own use? Given the backgrounds of some of the “do gooder’s” who are the collectors, which are questionable at best; and their own actual financial situations being in collections and such, I would be willing to bet the latter. How does that saying go? “The biggest sinners always sit front and center row at church every Sunday.” In my personal opinion, I guess that is the entire reason churches were actually created, if you really think about it to help those sinners; but that is a different musing for a different day!

Let’s face it at the end of the day someone, somewhere is always battling something. I know my family has had it’s share of hardships; cancer, deaths and tragic life issues in general. Many of which predate any type of social media support groups. We all managed as best we could, and never asked for local help or support. Heck we never even asked for meals to be delivered, because who wants food with chemo or radiation? Just the smell alone is enough to make you barf your guts out. Our family knew we were not getting remembered, no momentous Lemonade stands in our honor, special walks, t-shirts or rubber bracelets with our family name on them. My family members just enjoyed the time they had while they were here.

When our house burned down we did not have a go fund me page to help us rebuild, we had insurance and lot of tears. The same thing is true when our home was destroyed by a tornado, we took care of it ourselves and it took a long time, but we got there. It is called life people, get over yourselves, you learn how to survive, not whine until someone else saves you. The more you look for others to save you the weaker it makes you.

Honestly, today’s generation is so weak! Most of them are still living in their parents basements or just barely getting by in their first home at 30 or 35. Heads up, your ADHD children are going to be weak too! This is why they count fan revolutions and play with fidget spinners, because they can not cope and probably never will because you have no mental fortitude to teach them how too or even how to be a parent yourself. You get all you reliance, ideals and comfort from the internet, from a sad little TIK TOK queen, where no one really cares! You have no community and spend all your time seeing what you can get off your neighbors and friends for nothing, so just create another meal train or go fund me page.

If I sound angry it is because it truly hurts my soul to watch our people go down the crapper so quickly. I have better conversations with complete strangers sometimes than people I have known for years. When I talk to friends or family I think what on earth has happened to you? When were you abducted by aliens, or maybe it is me? Why is the world so stupid now, which is making the other half intolerant of this growing stupidity? I see whiny social media posts about how hard it is to be: (fill in a the blank) a parent, a child, a woman, a person of racial ethnicity, a transgender, a teenager and the list goes on and on, and we have be aware of the mental illness out there. Well let me tell you, “life is hard and then you die” this is what my mother used to tell me, and she is right. It really does not matter who or what you are, it will be hard and life usually is what you make it. The more time you spend blaming others and looking for a hand out is time you waste not investing time in yourself, and time waits for no one. You can never get it back, you can not rewind it, and you can not get more of it. So remember that when someone gives you their time, it means way more than just some monetary donation. Those who are in it only for the easy payout are just glorified thieves.
