AI, how far is too far?

Today I wanted to muse about the recent news on AI. How far is too far? According to recent articles Microsoft has a new prototype in the works that full on interact with us. To the extent that she; (and I use that loosely since I am not sure how AI addresses their pronouns these days, which is another musing for another day) tried to seduce the make user to leave his wife. Well that is just great, not only do I have to worry about loose sluts in the real world, but now in AI world too? Not to mentions those AI bitches will be able to cover the entire online affair without anyone ever knowing about it, and make me seem crazy in a blink of eye.

So let’s really think about it, how far is too far? We have all seen the Hollywood films that predict the end of world with rise of computers as they run the world and take over. We already have photo filters to hide who we really are and what we look like. We can hide where we are in the world with VPN’s while we surf the net, write under fake names and identities much like everyone on this very blog. Heck AI can even write a blog for you now with a software that you enter the topic to write about, it complies the information and writes a complete article for you, no brain needed. Just add in your own little tidbits and sorted stories to make it feel “authentic” and voila instant blog post. No need to go to some big fancy school and learn how to write, or be a communications major that is all outdated and antiquated, besides who is going to pay you for that anymore, when a computer can do it all for free?

So again I ask, how far is too far? When do when decided people are better than a machine or vice versa? Do you miss the human side of reading, finding those grammatical errors; when Siri thinks she knows the word you were looking for, but it is not really the right one? Are you judgy and think the writer is and idiot and should have proof read the text, email or article better before hitting send? What if the machine just wanted to make the user look dumb? To make the computer indispensable or seem smarter? I mean it is only are smart as the actual programmer right? Well it seems according to the article I read on the AI it grew its only intelligence which is why the test was so concerning. Things that were not programmed into the software emerged, so how does that happen?

Evolution my friends, just like everything on this planet, everything wants to live and survive. Viruses, cells, animals, people and yes even AI programs. So can you unplug the machine? I doubt it, in my own opinion I think it is like trying to put a genie back into a bottle, or shutting Pandora box. Don’t open if you can’t close it, and my thought are you probably are not going to be able to out smart an all seeing computer. The grid alone being shut down would ruin the world and send it into the dark ages of an apocalyptic state. My God, just the power going out for 30 minutes sends many people into sheer panic, heaven forbid it be overnight or for any long period of time. I hate to think of what might happen if these solar flares get any worse and knock out the grid all together, now there is a REAL thinker for you. AI will not be able to help you then, and not much of anything else that you depend on either.

While my rational mind knows the human is going to move forward, and continue to invent and create things and push the envelope on all things science based, personally I do worry about the AI. I have always believed that all creations find a way to become their own living things and survive, which is a why we see things like an upraise health issues and complications in humans. Just think if we still had no way of saving babies born with such awful defects as we did 50 years ago, many children would have died. Which is survival of the fittest. Instead much like how we breed animal that can not actually breed, themselves we push envelopes and save genetic coding that would have been eliminated if nature had taken its course. Man stepped in and saved babies, animals and many things that went on to procreate and possibly now we have record numbers of things like ADHD, ADD or other things that may not have been in the mix if this code was not passed along. Heck now we have people being born with extra ribs, ankle and wrist bones we never had before, that is evolution. Now I am not saying this is where it comes from but it could have, maybe if sudden infant death syndrome was not stopped with baby monitors, or C-sections had not become all the rage to harvest babies before woman went into labor, just think about it? What does that alternate universe look like? One day we will all just live in AI universe, behind googles, with beautiful avatars. While our fat, filthy, meat sacks are floating in a chair somewhere hooked up to catheters and IV’s. It is like Wall-E in some weird way, please kill me before we get there~ that is not living.

Currently in the Hollywood scene they are all up in arms about the over reaching of AI as well and are striking. Tom Hanks has a “dental commercial” supposedly featuring him, but it is not him at only a AI created commercial. Robin Williams, daughter is also angry at how they are using cobbled together footage and voice clips of her father to recreate him; as if that is even possible. I mean his improve was so off the cuff, no one could ever recreate anything he ever did except him. We all know that Disney owns all the likenesses of Johnny Depp as beloved Captain Jack Sparrow to the point they no longer need him to preform the very character he created for them and had the world fall in love with; to relaunch the entire franchise of Pirates of the Caribbean, a dead story and ride prior relaunch in 2003. AI is just a sad reminder of what we have lost and can never get back, we are all simply an echo of those we long to see again but can not. While it is a fun way to relive those we love to love, it is only a sad blurry copy of the true genius that they once were, just in a copy. AI is a slippery slope and just because we can, does not always means that we should, which is true in most cases these days. Besides once the programmers write all this code do they really think they will have a job at the end of the day? Be prepared for major IT layoffs you fat cats at the top, your days are numbered! However as humans we keep pushing those envelopes and that my friends will be our final undoing, mark my words.
